Speed Indicator Signs – You will have noticed a speed indicator sign that the Parish Council purchased and installed at the end of April. Suffolk County Council provided two posts, situated at the south and north of the village on the A140 inside the 30mph zone. They require such devices to be moved every 3-4 weeks, arguing drivers become complacent after that period and ignore the signs. Our plan was to move the device between the two poles every few weeks. The headline figures show 10% more drivers keeping to the 30mph limit entering the south of the village. And a 26% improvement by drivers entering the village from the north. Daily average traffic both ways is circa 13,000 or 4.6 million per year. Some 830,000 additional vehicles will be doing 30mph or below as a result of the device. There is a lot more data and detail published on the parish website. The data gathered over the past seven months does not show a drop off in effectiveness with the volume of vehicles travelling at 30mph or less being consistent and in fact increasing. As a result of the big improvement of reducing speeding through the village and in order to achieve this at both posts at the same time, the Parish Council has purchased a second device which was deployed in December. Ironically, on that same day, the A140 was once again shut due to a tragic accident north of the village involving a lorry and other vehicles. The devices are only solar powered and are currently suffering from a shortfall in power charging due to the short daylight hours, dull days and our busy road, we are working to address this by reducing their sensitivity and display output during the winter months.

A further 200 Suffolk homes without central heating will soon be able to have their first ever system installed.
On 7 October it was reported that Suffolk’s local authorities have secured an additional £760,000 of funding from the Warm Homes Fund. This will enable the installation of 204 first time central heating systems in eligible, fuel-poor households across Suffolk over the next three years.
Around four million UK households are in fuel poverty, unable to affordably heat their home to the temperature needed to stay warm and healthy. As well as being on low incomes many of these households are also faced with the additional burden of relying on heating systems that are inefficient and expensive to run.
I would encourage anyone who does not have a central heating system and finds it a challenge to afford their energy bills to contact Suffolk Warm Homes Healthy People on 03456 037686 quoting the Warm Homes Fund or visit www.greensuffolk.org/whf to find out more.

A14 Works – Junction 37 - 40
Highways England is undertaking necessary improvement works on the A14 between junction 37 and junction 40 to resurface the carriageway and replace road markings and studs.
These road improvements are necessary to maintain the strategic road network along the A14. These safety improvements will add benefits such as a better road surface and an improved journey for road users.
The work is planned to start on Wednesday 11 September for approximately 3 weeks and will require overnight closures of the A14 between the hours of 8pm and 6am on weekdays only.
Traffic Restrictions
In order to minimise the impact on local communities and road users, we will only divert traffic onto local roads when absolutely necessary. We have consulted closely with Suffolk County Council to agree the most appropriate diversion route, which is highlighted on the enclosed map. Access for emergency vehicles will be allowed at all times.
The following road closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am on weekdays only.
• Closure of the A14 eastbound junction 37 entry and exit slips from Friday 13 September to Thursday 19 September (Diagram A & B) • Closure of the A14 eastbound between junction 38 and junction 43 from Tuesday 24 September and Tuesday 1 October (Diagram C)
This scheme will also require eastbound lane closures along the A14 throughout the duration of the works.
Due to the nature of the work being carried out some noise and light disturbance is unavoidable. We will however attempt to keep this to a minimum.
Please note that these works are subject to weather conditions and dates may change. Notices onsite will provide the most up to date information. Should there be a requirement to significantly re-programme the work, a further notification will be issued.
If you have any queries about our work, or want to know more, please contact us on 0300 123 5000 or via email at info@highwaysengland.co.uk
Alternatively you can contact GRAHAM Construction who will be carrying out the works directly via email at HEworks@graham.co.uk
Yours sincerely
